We are proud to announce that one of our Pathfinder’s participants – Sizwe Zondo from Rhodes University, South Africa, won the first Society of fNIRS Diversity Equity and Inclusion (SfNIRS DEI) travel award. The SfNIRS DEI program aims to empower young scientists to present their research results at the prestigious fNIRS 2022 conference in Boston. During fNIRS 2022 Meeting, Sizwe summarized his project’s results on the efficacy of cognitive rehabilitation therapy to reverse HIV-associated neurocognitive decline (HAND).

Sizwe also presented how the subjects’ skin pigmentation affects the quality of the signal recorded with the fNIRS.
